Here are a few basic computer tips to try before paying a computer expert to come to your house to fix your slow computer. The steps or tips below can be done by the average user for the most part. If you are not great with computers, it is not a bad idea to get someone to help you through these following tips.

Defrag and Delete unused Files and programs
The hard drive is the slowest component on a computer. Deleting unused files and programs can help to speed it up. Also, after you have done this, run a disk defragmenter to optimize the storage of the files on your hard disk.

Get rid of spyware
Go to lavasoft.com and get ad-aware for free. Install ad-aware and then run a full spyware scan. Most likely it will find some issues. Removing spyware/malware is something that should be done very often since it seems to be very easy to get.

Run a Virus Check
You can get a free Virus program at http://www.free-av.com/ if you don't have one. Make sure to do a full system scan and to remove any viruses. It is a good idea to do this every month or so at least.
